An ordinary hardware or alignment problem may be repairable without a new leaf. If replacement is appropriate, first confirm that the proposed external door suits the sound existing opening and exposure; a new leaf cannot remedy underlying frame or threshold defects.
A practical external door replacement decision starts with the affected item, its condition and the surrounding materials. Fit a suitable ordinary supplied leaf with agreed mechanical hardware and check closing, clearances and existing seal contact without altering the opening.
Signs: the door closes poorly despite an otherwise sound visible opening or the door sags, rubs, sticks or has uneven gaps around the opening. Causes: local damage to an accessible component rather than an assumed structural defect or loose fixings, minor alignment drift or ordinary timber movement.
An external opening cannot always remain exposed while fitting or finishing proceeds. Scheduling depends on safe conditions and product requirements. Discuss forecast-sensitive stages and the finish plan before the visit rather than assuming the opening can be left incomplete overnight.
Existing seals need space to contact the leaf without preventing closure. Show damaged or missing strips separately in the enquiry. A leaf replacement can include checking the agreed fit against compatible existing seals, but it is not certification of a complete weather-sealing system.
